President's Message
Dear I.S. 24 Families,
Happy New Year! I hope that everyone had a wonderful winter recess with their families and friends. It's hard to believe we are already halfway through the school year. WOW!!
As the New Year begins we are faced with obstacles that are yet to be determined. Like for some of you have read and heard the Chancellor's Regulations to the A-660 have been revised. These changes will be voted on 1/26/10 at Brooklyn Tech by the PEP. Though some changes are minor, others are major especially with regards to fundraising activities, particularly raffle tickets sales. They implemented at first that the sale of raffle tickets were prohibited but now it's revised yet again. We as PTA members must comply to the laws and provisions of the New York State General Municipal Law and regulations to the Racing and Wagering Board. This will not be determined until the vote is rendered so we have to wait until then. If you want to review these changes, you can go to the DOE website at www.schools.nyc.gov.
In these economically tough times many circumstances change. If you have been affected financially, you are entitled to fill out a new lunch form. You can access the form online at www.nyc.gov/accessnyc or call the school and request a form to be sent home with your child. Check out the PTA website www.barnes-is24.com for the link to the site. The PTA website is up and running but the APs links are under construction and will be until further notice therefore we will try our best to give you all the information you will need for the up coming months.
If you would like to be a PTA officer for the 2010-2011 school year, please look for the Willingness to Serve form at the next General PTA Meeting, the next newsletter in February or the print out the form below. Fill it out and return to the attention of the PTA Nominating Committee. I urge you to consider becoming a PTA officer and if you have any questions regarding the function of the PTA at IS 24 please feel free to contact us at 718-356-4200. All positions are open and will be voted on at the May General PTA meeting. We will also be voting on the Federation Scholarship and Yearbook Ads so I look forward to seeing you then on January 19, 2010 at 9:15am.

The IS 24 PTA is in the process of canvassing our membership for recommendations of candidates for all officer positions. To be eligible for nomination,a candidate must have a child in the school for the elected term of office, as per Article X of the IS 24 By-Laws.
